Question:
We created an ACH credit outbound payment (received USD from another bank), for which we received the 'TRANSACTION_COMPLETED' success status, and for which the USD were successfully deposited in our account.
Later, this payment that already cleared, was then returned by CRB. This seems like a very unusual situation. Can this happen? If so, what is the reason that CRB returned an ACH payment that was already accepted?
Answer:
The ODFI can send a return to CRB for a couple of different reasons, but they are limited to specific reasons and timeframes. The exact details are in the NACHA rules book.
